This July, America turns 250.
Our country was built by generations of people willing to do difficult work. Frame carpenters in colonial ports. Railroad crews stretching steel across a continent. Linemen stringing wire through rural communities. Ironworkers balancing on steel a thousand feet up. Pipefitters, electricians, operators, mechanics… the trades hold our country together.
Every generation has come together to do the work that built the country we all love.
By 2025, the construction industry employed more than 8.2 million Americans. Add manufacturing, utilities, oil and gas, transportation, and the crews who maintain roads, bridges, water systems, and the electrical grid, and you're looking at tens of millions of people doing the work that keeps our country running.
Construction remains one of the most dangerous industries in the country. Falls keep showing up as a leading cause of serious injuries and fatalities on the jobsite. In 2024, Fall Protection (29 CFR 1926.501) was the most-cited OSHA standard in the country. When preventable head injuries happen, families lose. Crews lose. Communities lose.

The Veterans in the Trades
More of our country’s trade workers are veterans than ever before. The military-to-civilian pipeline into the skilled trades has become one of the most reliable paths to a stable, well-paying career for service members leaving active duty. Veterans bring discipline, leadership, and a comfort with high-stakes environments that translate directly into construction, manufacturing, and industrial work.
That's why BDG Safety exists. We're a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business founded by Navy veterans who've seen, firsthand, what happens when the gear fails or the standard slips. We know what protection looks like from the inside out. We built this company to make sure the people building America come home at the end of the day.
The Gear Is Part of the Mission
Modern PPE is not a box to check. It's the last line of defense between a worker and the kind of injury that ends a career, changes a family, or worse. Hard hats gave way to Type II safety helmets because real-world head injuries don't always come straight down.
Swinging loads… low-clearance bumps… side strikes from equipment… falls onto uneven ground. Type II helmets absorb impact from any direction, which is why they're the modern answer to a question that hasn't changed in 250 years: how do we make sure the people doing the work go home in the same condition they arrived?
The right gear does more than protect. It lets crews work with confidence and keeps projects on schedule. Every dollar spent on proper PPE is a dollar spent on the people doing the work and the communities depending on them.
The Work Continues
America will keep building. The shape of the work changes, but the need for hands, judgment, and protection does not. The next generation of builders is in apprenticeship programs, trade schools, and on their first jobsite this week. They deserve the same standard the last 250 years earned the hard way.
